'Five Songs for Swimming’ includes 5 original songs and a cover. They follow a continuous thread of water and flow and yet Sunna Margrét keeps close to her influences of bizarre human interactions, present in her lyrics throughout the EP and borrowing the words of New York legends the Feelies on the last song ‘When To Go’ cover.
It is safe to say that the new EP comes to life after loss occurs. This composition of music and lyrics is written in memory of Sunna Margrét’s grandmother, Unnur Ágústsdóttir, who passed away in February 2021. She was a swimmer in her early life, a champion in Iceland in the 40’s, as well as a soprano singer, teacher, bird lover and lifelong inspiration. “She would always show me the positive side of things, how anything could turn beautiful or even funny if I just allowed it, she had such a good sense of humour”.

Contributing to the writing on ‘Five Songs for Swimming’ is Sunna Margrét’s band member, Swiss musician Maxime Graf that even lends his voice on The Feelies cover ‘When To Go’ that delivers a sweet and soft duet between the two collaborators for the finale of the EP.

Includes unlimited streaming of Five Songs for Swimming via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more.

lyrics

There was a time
you called me
loving
Feet in the sand
I saw you
smiling

Similar paths
have been crossed
before
I take a bath
drown in foam
recap

I see the waves
in your brown hair

There was a time
your lips were
my home
I never thought
we would wash
ashore

Now we’re stranded
past love grounded

Don’t look at me
don’t think of me
don’t even remember
my name

There was a time
your lips were
my home
I never thought
we would wash
ashore

Now we’re stranded
past love grounded

about

Sunna Margrét Reykjavík, Iceland

“At a time when many of her Icelandic peers strive to fill space from the get-go with attitude but end up sounding bombastic, Sunna delivers a euphoric tune that begs to be played on repeat, hinting at greater things to come”
