'Five Songs for Swimming’ includes 5 original songs and a cover. They follow a continuous thread of water and flow and yet Sunna Margrét keeps close to her influences of bizarre human interactions, present in her lyrics throughout the EP and borrowing the words of New York legends the Feelies on the last song ‘When To Go’ cover.
It is safe to say that the new EP comes to life after loss occurs. This composition of music and lyrics is written in memory of Sunna Margrét’s grandmother, Unnur Ágústsdóttir, who passed away in February 2021. She was a swimmer in her early life, a champion in Iceland in the 40’s, as well as a soprano singer, teacher, bird lover and lifelong inspiration. “She would always show me the positive side of things, how anything could turn beautiful or even funny if I just allowed it, she had such a good sense of humour”.

Contributing to the writing on ‘Five Songs for Swimming’ is Sunna Margrét’s band member, Swiss musician Maxime Graf that even lends his voice on The Feelies cover ‘When To Go’ that delivers a sweet and soft duet between the two collaborators for the finale of the EP.

Afloat 05:46
Ohh mm don’t be afraid don’t be intimidated I’ll hold your hand I’ll keep you afloat just breathe synchronise move forward (synchronise) I’m still here with you (forward, don’t look back) breathe steady breathe in (it’s ok) breathe out (don’t be afraid) just keep going I’m here I’ll take care of you
2.
Have I become your target of choice the alternative to your obscure dreams Am I transmitting cryptic prophecies when we speak of personal disasters A rainfall of storytelling styling your mood A notion, oblivious Keep talking ‘till you’re out of breath Was there any hope at all I’m very into knowing what you think But while I’m diving through your pile of books as you're sleeping soundly next to me a rainfall of storytelling slightly off mood A notion, oblivious Keep talking ‘till you’re out of breath A notion, oblivious Keep talking ‘till you’re out of breath
3.
Lullaby lullaby for daydreamers Isn’t it lovely to float with eyes closed Now lift your arms Hands above your head do you feel as if gravity lost its law Oh, what a shame Oh, that this moment is gone in a blink of an eye Lullaby lullaby for daydreamers Do you feel as if I’m there with you
4.
Wave 07:28
I could offer you my hand to dance like synchronised swimmers would you hear me underwater can you feel me when I shiver I feel your body’s resonance ride this wave I wouldn’t be calling you so late if I knew what time it was did you have your dinner what are your plans puff pastry biscuits next to your bed I still daydream I can feel the ocean touching my toes salt in my nose I’m tired of floating next to others everyone bumping into each other I want the breeze of freedom tickling my senses and at the same time I want you by my side two seagulls in love we see the world from above ahead is the sunrise side by side we ride this wave Ride this wave Can you tell me if all we did has sunk when nothing matters still I feel kind of wasted can you tell me if everything I have earned can you tell me if all we did was wrong I need to know I need to know I need to know I need to know know to flow to float
5.
Ashore 03:19
There was a time you called me loving Feet in the sand I saw you smiling Similar paths have been crossed before I take a bath drown in foam recap I see the waves in your brown hair There was a time your lips were my home I never thought we would wash ashore Now we’re stranded past love grounded Don’t look at me don’t think of me don’t even remember my name There was a time your lips were my home I never thought we would wash ashore Now we’re stranded past love grounded

about

Sunna Margrét Reykjavík, Iceland

“At a time when many of her Icelandic peers strive to fill space from the get-go with attitude but end up sounding bombastic, Sunna delivers a euphoric tune that begs to be played on repeat, hinting at greater things to come”
